Medea has killed her brother and fled to Corinth with Jason and their two sons. There, he abandons her and marries King Creon’s daughter. Medea is to be banished with her sons. She begs for and receives the rest of the day to prepare for her departure. Aegeus offers her refuge in Athens. Medea takes revenge. 

Great ancient Greek tragedy, centred on women and on revenge, ten actors present this fundamental European text in two languages – original translations from the Greek in an English and a French version. Some of the original text will also be performed in Greek.

The breaking of faith and the fate that awaits all sinners. Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned ; but this is more than a woman. Medea is granddaughter of the Sun, niece of Circe. Medea is more than human. And her revenge is total. 

This intense and passionate text is performed in a modern context which allows the greatest connection between the human themes which have endured for thousands of years and the here and now in which we exist.

Médée a tué son frère et s’enfuit à Corinthe avec Jason et leurs deux fils. Là-bas, il l’abandonne et se marie avec la fille du roi de Corinthe, Créon.

Médée doit être bannie avec ses deux fils. Elle implore et reçoit un sursis d’un jour pour préparer son départ. Aegée l’offre un refuge à Athènes. Et Médée prend sa revanche.

Cette grande tragédie grecque ancienne, centrée sur les femmes et la revanche, est interprétée par dix comédiens dans deux langues – des traductions originales depuis le grec ancien vers l’anglais et le français. Certaines parties du texte seront par ailleurs jouées en grec ancien.

De briser la foi et le sort qui attend chaque pécheur. L’enfer n’est rien comparé à une femme méprisée, mais Médée est bien plus qu’une femme. Petite-fille du Soleil, nièce de Circé, Médée est plus qu’humaine – et sa revanche est totale.

Ce texte intense et passionné est joué dans un contexte moderne. Les thèmes abordés perdurent depuis des milliers d’années, et dans notre monde contemporain restent toujours d’actualité.
